Statement of Purpose

The University of San Diego’s Law Enforcement & Public Safety Leadership Program has provided me with a broad range of knowledge, skills, and abilities that will help me thrive as a law enforcement leader in the 21st Century.  The wide range of course topics presented throughout the program has been based on current and tangible law enforcement challenges.  As I progressed through the program, I was able to discern and understand the importance education can often have on a law enforcement leader.  The program allowed me to see my agency and my community through a different lens. 

Throughout the program, I had the opportunity to think critically and find solutions as a law enforcement leader at the forefront of a challenge.  I experienced several paradigm shifts.  For the first time, I found myself placing myself in the shoes of other community stakeholders while navigating through challenges.  I started the program, thinking I wanted to enhance my skills as I prepared for promotion.  As I complete the program, I am ready to enhance and improve not only entire agency but also my community and myself.  I feel confident I will be able to take the concepts I learned during the Law Enforcement & Public Safety Leadership Program and lead the future of law enforcement.

The portfolio is a reflection of the work I completed and the knowledge I have gained throughout the Law Enforcement & Public Safety Leadership Program.  While the portfolio is not all-inclusive of the work I completed, it provides an insight into the importance of the program.  The portfolio will include information on some of the assignments that have not only taught me how to engage with my community, analyze leadership, and identify and resolve conflict; it will include information on how I evolved into a law enforcement leader in the 21st Century.
