Biography
Thank you for visiting my website! My name is Diana Trueba Vega. I was born in Mexico City. I immigrated to the United States when I was nine years old. While I was not born in the United States, the United States has become my home. I love the community I work and live in, and I love being a public servant. I am married and have two children; an 22year old son, and a six-year old son. My family is an important driving force in both my personal and professional life.
My law enforcement journey began as a Reedley Police Department Explorer when I was a Junior in High School. As an Explorer, I met caring law enforcement officers who volunteered their time to mentor, coach, and encourage me during my formative years. The influence and guidance of these caring law enforcement professionals allowed me to venture into the noble law enforcement profession. Without their guiding hand, I wouldn't have selected law enforcement as my career path. I pursued a career in law enforcement not only to fulfill my personal goals but to also give back to my community. In the last twenty-three years, I have been able to serve my community in a non-sworn and a sworn capacity. In a non-sworn capacity, I have worked as a Reserve Community Service Officer/Jailer for the Reedley Police Department. I have also worked as a 9-1-1 Emergency Services Dispatcher for both the Reedley and the Fresno Police Departments. While employed for the Reedley Police Department, I was selected for Dispatcher of the Year.
After my employment with the Reedley Police Department, I sent myself to the academy. I was hired as a Police Cadet with the Fresno Police Department in June 2003 assigned to the patrol wagon. In November 2003, I was promoted to Police Officer. In my seventeen years of sworn experience at the Fresno Police Department, I have worked various assignments including: patrol, District Crime Suppression Team, District Investigations-Vehicle Burglary Detective, Street Narcotics Enforcement Team (SNET), Violent Crime Impact Team (VCIT) Surveillance Team, Graffiti Detective, Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium (MAGEC) Investigations Unit-Assigned to the Bulldog Criminal Street Gang, and the Sexual Assault Unit. As an investigator, I have always focused on conducting factual and unbiased investigations. I also pride myself in obtaining justice for victims of violent crimes and sexual assaults. One of the confessions I obtained in a sexual assault case, resulted in the suspect being convicted and sentenced to the longest-known prison sentence in the Fresno Superior Court history with 1,503 years in prison.
I was promoted to Police Sergeant in 2015. I have supervised officers on Patrol, on the Violent Crime Impact Team (VCIT), and in the Central Policing District Investigations/Problem-Oriented Policing (POP)/School Neighborhood Resource Officers (SNRO'S). I have also worked as a sergeant in the Internal Affairs Bureau, and a Public Information Officer in the Office of Media and Community Engagement. I am currently assigned to the Police Community Relations Unit.
I hold a Bachelor of Science from Union Institute & University in Criminal Justice Management, and a Master of Science in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego. I am also a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, and recently became an Adjunct Professor at the Fresno City College State Center Regional Training Police Academy and an adjunct criminology professor at Madera Community College. As a law enforcement leader, I value education and continual growth for myself and those around me. As an immigrant to the United States, I value giving back to my community for everything the community has given me. I value all people I work with, and those I serve within my community. The highlight of my career has been creating and fostering positive and meaningful relationships inside my agency, as well as outside my agency with community members, and community stakeholders. I plan on continuing to invest in my community as I grow as a leader within my agency.
I believe in the power of community policing and the positive effects that police engagement and community policing have on building public trust and police legitimacy. I believe a police department must understand and get to know its community; mirror the values and meet the needs of that community in order for the agency to be successful. I am a member of the Board of Directors for the Family Healing Center-A local non-profit organization that provides services to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. I am a former volunteer instructor for the Hispanic Residents Academy, a co-captain for the Fresno Police Department Baker to Vegas running team, a former co-captain for the Special Olympics World Games Torch Run, and a former weekly contributor to the Spanish Crime Stoppers Most Wanted Person of the week in collaboration with Univision, a local Spanish Speaking TV Channel.
I have attended numerous school carnivals and community events, where I have built and nurtured relationships and partnerships with Fresno’s school and community members. I have attended prayer groups with community members and faith-based leaders at the height of the racial unrest experienced across the country in the year 2020. I understand the importance of practicing the four tenants of procedural justice with all those I contact, as well as opening and continuing a dialogue between law enforcement and minority communities. As I continue my law enforcement journey, I look forward to continuing to foster meaningful conversations and relationships, maintaining the dialogue, listening intently to those that might think differently than me, and finding collective solutions to crime trends and issues plaguing our community.
My website will highlight select key assignments I completed as a student of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership program at the University of San Diego. The assignments will highlight valuable skills I have learned that will enable me to lead and serve our Fresno community as a law enforcement leader in the 21st Century. I hope you join me in reading the material presented in this website. Most importantly, I hope you join me in working together to solidify the bond between our law enforcement officers and the citizens of Fresno. After all, we are all looking for the same thing: to be seen, be heard, and to build a better and safer Fresno.
